Which image formats can I use?
HEIC/HEIF iPhone photos, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, and BMP are supported. HEIC conversion runs locally when your browser cannot open it directly. AVIF support depends on your browser. Animated images become a single still image; Live Photos use the still photo, not the companion video. RAW/ProRAW (DNG) files need to be exported as JPEG first. Large photos are resized to a maximum of 4096 pixels on the longest edge to keep processing manageable on mobile.
How do I remove a background?
Choose or drop a photo (up to 20 MB and 50 megapixels), including 48 MP iPhone photos. Background removal starts automatically. Switch between Original and Cutout to compare, then download your transparent PNG.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Your image is processed locally in a browser worker. The browser downloads model files from Hugging Face and the processing runtime from a CDN, but does not send your image to either service.
Which images work best?
The model is optimized for photos of people. Clear subjects and contrasting backgrounds tend to work best. Objects, fine hair, transparent items, and busy scenes can produce imperfect edges. Check the preview before using the result.
Why does the first run take longer?
The browser needs to download the AI model and initialize it. Downloads may be cached by your browser for later use. Processing speed depends on your device; keep this tab open until it finishes.
